Where Stewart Detention Releases Go
Stewart Detention Center is an immigration detention facility in Lumpkin. CoreCivic operates it with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as its customer base. It is not the Stewart County Jail, and its custody events do not create a county sheriff release record. A person may leave the building for release on immigration bond, parole from detention, an order of supervision, transfer to another ICE location, removal from the United States, or movement into criminal custody.
That range makes the destination as important as the departure. A person released under immigration supervision remains involved in an immigration case. Someone transferred remains detained. Removal is not a community release in Stewart County. Criminal custody creates a separate county, state, or federal record. The correct confirmation must name both what ended and what began.
Confirm Stewart Detention Release Status
Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System first. Search by A-number and country of birth when that number is known. The other route uses name, country of birth, and date of birth. Exact spelling and complete birth information help distinguish records. An absent result does not prove release because a transfer, data timing, name variation, or case status can affect what appears.
- Collect the person's A-number, full name, country of birth, and date of birth.
- Search the ICE Online Detainee Locator System using the strongest identifier.
- Note the facility and custody information, but do not infer a community release from disappearance alone.
- Call Stewart Detention Center during ICE's stated detainee-information window.
- Check the immigration court case and contact the attorney, representative, or ICE/ERO when needed.
ICE's facility page says information about a detainee housed here may be requested by phone. The Stewart County custody-system guide provides context when it is not clear whether the person was in county, state, ICE, or federal custody.
Stewart Detention Locator Fields
The locator asks for fewer fields than a county release-record request, but those fields must match the immigration record. The A-number is the strongest public search key when available.
| Search route | Information needed |
|---|---|
| A-number search | A-number and country of birth |
| Name search | Full name, country of birth, and date of birth |
| Facility confirmation | Name, A-number, and identifying details |
| Court status | A-number for immigration case status |
Immigration court status can explain proceedings or decisions, but it is not a real-time physical custody roster. Likewise, a facility answer about housing does not by itself explain the court outcome. Reconcile locator, facility, court, and counsel information by date.
The official immigration court case-status service is shown below as a matching case channel.

This court screen adds case context, while ICE and the facility remain the sources for detention location and custody change.
ICE Releases Are Not Jail Releases
This distinction is unusually important in Stewart County because both the county jail function and a large ICE facility are associated with Lumpkin. A broad search for a Stewart County inmate can therefore point to the wrong agency. The Sheriff's Office answers local booking, bond, and jail-transfer questions. ICE answers immigration detention questions. GDC covers state prisoners, and BOP covers sentenced federal prisoners.
A criminal arrest may also overlap with immigration action. A county release record might show transfer to ICE, but that transfer is not freedom from custody. Later movement from Stewart Detention Center may create an ICE event with no new sheriff release record. Follow the sequence agency by agency rather than treating all dates as one release.
Stewart ICE Facility Since 2006
CoreCivic says it has owned Stewart Detention Center since 2006 and describes the site as a medium-security facility. The company page identifies facility leadership and PREA reporting channels. Those facts establish the operator and history, but they do not turn the company page into an ICE release feed.
The local history changes how the phrase “Stewart County released inmates” should be read. Many searches may concern an immigration detainee, not a person booked by the county sheriff. Confirm the custody authority before requesting records. That one step prevents a county open-records request from being sent for an ICE-only event.
The official ICE facility page shown below is the matching source for the detention channel.

The page supports direct facility confirmation and should be used with ODLS, not as a substitute for the person search.
Stewart Detention Transfers and Removal
If ODLS no longer shows Stewart Detention Center, ask whether the person was transferred, released, removed, or moved to criminal custody. A transfer calls for the new ICE facility. Release on bond or supervision calls for case and reporting information from counsel or ICE. Removal concerns immigration enforcement status. Criminal movement calls for the named receiving agency.
The U.S. Marshals Service and BOP are not default alternatives for an ICE detainee. BOP applies when the person has a federal prison record, and its locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to the present. GDC applies to a Georgia prison sentence. A person can have more than one record over time, so compare dates instead of assuming that one system cancels the others.
Stewart Detention Records Contact
Use the facility phone for detainee information and the ICE locator for the public online check. CoreCivic lists a physical and mailing address, phone, and fax. ICE states a narrower phone window for detainee information.

Give the A-number when possible. Do not ask the Stewart County Sheriff's Office to certify an ICE release it did not create. If a written immigration record is needed, identify the federal component that maintains it and request that record through the applicable federal process.
Keep a dated log of each locator result and call. Immigration location data can change as a person moves between facilities. Record the exact wording, agency, and time received. If answers conflict, an attorney or accredited representative can compare detention information with the case file.
Release under supervision may include future reporting duties. The locator does not explain each condition. Ask the responsible ICE office or representative which document controls and where the person must report. For a bond release, use the court or ICE record to confirm the legal basis.
Before treating a status as final, compare the person's full identity and A-number across every source. Name spellings can vary, and a court update may not appear at the same time as a facility move. A dated, source-by-source timeline is more reliable than one screen viewed once. It also gives the facility or representative a precise question to resolve.
